Railway Garden

This section was first laid out in 2018, inspired by the work of Piet Oudolf. Due to the steeply sloping nature of the site, the height of perennials was deliberately varied to create lines of sight into the planting.

With structure provided by sambucus and briar roses, the Railway Garden celebrates both colour (with pinks and mauves dominating) and form, the latter celebrated well beyond the flowering 'peak', with skeletal stems and seedheads left intact throughout winter. Grasses provide long-lasting texture, from fluffy knee high Stipa elegantissima to towering miscanthus.
